An audio-visual installation translating the respiration data of algae into spatial sonics — a delicate equilibrium tilted by forecast ocean acidification.
Data for the sound work was provided by the Evolutionary Biology Department, University of Edinburgh. The respiration of algae was transposed into sound; a state of disequilibrium was then woven in using forecast CO₂ levels.
A box installation with three walls, eight sound pieces composed using algae respiration data and the artist's voice, an artist's book reworking the old library volume Structures and Systems, and a hand-made limited run of five CDs sold at the show.
On the public opening, an improvised forty-minute performance was made with Cameron McNair and Wolfgang Thomas — a recorded narrative folded live into the algae data sounds.
